Design: N¨¡ Lau

Part of our Mea Kanu (Plant) Collection, N¨¡ Lau celebrates the plants that root Hawai i¡¯s identity and traditions. In Hawaiian, lau means both leaf and design¡ªa layered meaning that captures the poetry of our ¨­lelo m¨¡kuahine (mother tongue). This nail design is woven from the leaves of plants cherished by k¨¡naka maoli for food, medicine, lei, and ceremony:

• Laua?e ¨C fragrant, often braided into lei

• ?Ulu ¨C breadfruit, a symbol of abundance and sharing

• H¨­?i?o ¨C fern, gathered for food and adornment

Each nail becomes a leaf, and together, they form a design that honors both tradition and beauty¡ªn¨¡ lau in every sense of the word.
